Diplomatic efforts to lead what was warned by US officials could be a Russian attack that would soon occur in Ukraine entered a new round on Monday. Russian Top Diplomats advised President Vladimir Putin to continue the conversation and German Chancellor to meet with the President of Ukraine.
Even though the US announced it closed the embassy in Ukraine and moved all the staff left there to a city near the Polish border.
Previously, the British Prime Minister said Europe was “on the edge of the cliff,” quoted American warnings that Russia could attack Ukraine in the next 48 hours.
This looks what happens where and why:
What is the message from Russia?
The Kremlin signaled Monday that it was ready to continue talking to the West about security complaints that caused the current crisis, offering hope that Russia might not attack Ukraine in a few days when Western officials were increasingly scared.
In the appearance arranged for TV cameras, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrr argues that the possibility of talks has not run out. It seems to be designed to send a message that Putin itself believes hope for diplomatic solutions has not faded.
Lavrr said the conversation “could not leave without limits, but I would suggest continuing and expanding it at this stage.” He noted that Washington had offered to discuss the limitations for the spread of missiles in Europe, restrictions on military training and other trust development measures.
Asked by Putin if it made sense to continue diplomatic efforts, Lavrov replied that the possibility of the conversation “far from fatigue” and he proposed to continue negotiations. He said his service would not allow the US and his allies to striking Russian’s main demand.
US officials respond to them looking for action, not just talking. “If the comments of the Minister of Foreign Affairs Lavrov are followed up with concrete signs, real from de-escalation, we will definitely welcome that,” said the Ned Price Department Department spokesman told reporters. “We haven’t seen it yet.”
What is the latest US actions?
The United States said Monday will close his embassy in Ukraine and move all the staff left there to a city near the Polish border because the invasion fears increased. This also repeatedly warned of American citizens in Ukraine immediately left.
Announcement of the State Department followed the decisions needed during the weekend to order the departure of all non-essential diplomats from Kyiv. Embassies will now suspend the operation and property will be guarded by local Ukrainian security guards.
A small number of embassy staff from Kyiv will move to Lviv, where they will provide limited consular services to Americans and remain open with the Ukrainian government, the department said.
The State Department also told Americans in Belarus to leave the country immediately because of “unusual and regarding the buildup of Russian military along the Belarus border with Ukraine.”
State Secretary Antony Blinken also said the US would offer loan guarantees of up to $ 1 billion to Ukraine to help improve its economic stability “in the face of Russian destabilization behavior.”
Meanwhile, the Pentagon announced that Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin will go to NATO Defense Minister in Brussels this week, and will also visit Poland and Lithuania, neighbors to Ukraine. The Pentagon Press Secretary John Kirby said Austin will meet with the President, Minister of Defense and other key leaders in Poland and Lithuania, and US forces in these countries. Kirby said Austin also planned to hold a trilateral meeting with the head of the defense of three Baltic countries, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia.
