For 50 seconds Tuesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin – looked ashamed – reportedly continued to wait in front of the media by Turkish colleagues Recep Tayyip Erdogan ahead of their meeting in Iran Tuesday.
The viral clip of the incident showed Putin who was restless waiting in a room full of reporters to meet Erdogan, who appeared almost a minute later.
Joyce Karam, a senior correspondent in the publication of UAE The National, shared videos on social media, said Putin looked “tired” in front of the camera displaying “how much has changed after Ukraine.”
In the video, reportedly taken by the Turkish Government News Agency Anadolu, the Russian leader looked awkward, with a clip showing his face close-up. He was seen shifting from one foot to the other when he glanced around the room, not looking too happy. Then, Erdogan walked to the room and Putin welcomed him.
This incident occurred ahead of the meeting where the two leaders were intended to discuss the easing of the export of black sea from the seeds of Ukraine, blockages that cause lack of food throughout the world. This is their meeting since Russia invaded Ukraine in February.
Putin is famous for keeping world leaders waiting when they come to see him. Some in the Turkish media speculated that Erdogan made Putin wait as a “return” for the 2020 meeting in Moscow when he was left waiting by the Russian President for about two minutes before the meeting
Some Twitter users joked about the video, compared Putin’s situation with someone who “stood on a date” or “waiting for someone’s partner”.
